"He Won't Need It Now" was originally published as written by James L. Docherty, one of Raymond's many pen names, but later republished under Chase's name. The book was first published the same year of "No Orchids for Miss Blandish". It is a tough, hard-boiled story full of action, bizarre situations, and quirky characters.
